ALOR SETAR – A total of 32 participants of the Skills and Career Training Programme (PLKK) organised by the Kedah Regional Development Authority (KEDA) received their course completion certificates for the Generative AI, Culinary and Food & Beverage Service courses at a ceremony held today.
KEDA allocated RM96,000 to implement the training programme as part of its effort to enhance the skills of rural youth, making them more competitive in today’s job market.
Of the total, 16 participants attended the Generative AI (Associate) course under the Kedah Industrial Skills and Management Development Centre (KISMEC), while another 16 participants underwent the Culinary and Food & Beverage Service course conducted by CTP Training & Consultancy.
The certificate presentation ceremony was officiated by KEDA Deputy General Manager (Operations), Mr. Khairul Azmeer bin Abu Bakar, together with KEDA Community Development Manager, Mr. Mohd Azam bin Omar, who is performing the duties of Deputy General Manager (Management).
Also present were Zone 7 (Kuala Muda/Yan) Development Officer, Mr. Anuar bin Omar; Manager of CTP Training & Consultancy, Ms. Siti Rohani binti Ahmad; and Executive Director of KISMEC, Mr. Haji Mohd Yusuri bin Yusoff.
Investment in skills training not only benefits the participants but also serves as a key strategy in reducing reliance on foreign labour.
In line with global technological advancements, mastery in fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become essential. According to the World Economic Forum (WEF), AI is expected to create millions of new job opportunities worldwide, opening doors for the local workforce to compete on a global scale.
At the same time, all graduates of the Culinary and Food & Beverage Service course achieved a 100 percent employability rate, having secured job offers immediately upon completing their training, including placements at renowned hotels such as The Jerai Hill Resort and the The Jerai Hotel chain.
This success proves that the training programmes under PLKK are aligned with industry needs, producing skilled local talent capable of filling professional roles previously dominated by foreign workers.
KEDA hopes that more rural youth will seize the opportunity to participate in such programmes to improve their livelihoods and become key contributors to the state and national economy.
