MAHA 2026: KEDA REMAINS COMMITTED TO EMPOWERING RURAL ENTREPRENEURS

SERDANG – The Kedah Regional Development Authority (KEDA) remains committed to empowering rural entrepreneurs and strengthening rural development, in line with the Government’s aspiration to improve the socioeconomic well-being of rural communities.

This commitment was demonstrated through KEDA’s participation in the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Exhibition (MAHA) 2026, particularly through its involvement at the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) Pavilion, which served as a platform to promote the initiatives and development programmes undertaken by the agency.

Through its participation this year, KEDA showcased eight rural entrepreneurs, alongside the Desa Kirana Sedim community from Kulim and the Pulau Tuba community from Langkawi. Various interactive activities were also organised to attract visitors and provide them with an opportunity to learn more about KEDA’s products, services and initiatives.

The MAHA 2026 Closing Ceremony, held at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS), was officiated by YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia.

Representing KEDA at the ceremony was KEDA Deputy General Manager (Management), Mr. Khairul Azmeer bin Abu Bakar. He also took the opportunity to visit and engage with KEDA entrepreneurs participating in MAHA 2026.

KEDA extends its highest appreciation and gratitude to all parties who contributed, directly or indirectly, to the success of KEDA’s participation in MAHA 2026.

VISITORS GRAB FREE SOUVENIRS ON THE FINAL DAY OF MAHA 2026

SERDANG – The final day of MAHA 2026 remained lively as visitors to the Rural Entrepreneur Pavilion, Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW), took the opportunity to receive a variety of free souvenirs prepared by the Kedah Regional Development Authority (KEDA).

In addition to the souvenirs, visitors also had the opportunity to enjoy a 10 per cent discount on accommodation vouchers offered by KEDA Holding, providing an added benefit to those visiting the KEDA booth.

The various activities and special offers were part of KEDA’s efforts to engage with the community while giving visitors the opportunity to learn more about KEDA’s role, functions and operations in developing rural communities and areas.

An interactive quiz was also held for visitors, testing their knowledge of KEDA, including its role and various rural development programmes.

The activity received an encouraging response, with visitors taking the opportunity to test their knowledge while bringing home souvenirs as a memorable token of their visit.

The lively atmosphere at the Rural Entrepreneur Pavilion on the final day of MAHA 2026 also demonstrated the effectiveness of the platform as a space for interaction between government agencies, entrepreneurs and the community in promoting rural products, services and development initiatives.

The strong presence and positive response from visitors throughout MAHA 2026 will further encourage KEDA to strengthen its community engagement efforts and promote its various rural development initiatives to a wider audience.

12 VISITORS RECEIVE FREE ACCOMMODATION VOUCHERS DURING MAHA 2026

SERDANG – A total of 12 lucky visitors received free accommodation vouchers from the Kedah Regional Development Authority (KEDA) in conjunction with the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Exhibition (MAHA) 2026, which concluded today.

The lucky visitors comprised participants from several states, including Melaka, Johor, Kedah and Perak. The prizes were presented by KEDA Deputy General Manager (Management), Mr. Khairul Azmeer bin Abu Bakar.

The KEDA Resort & Holidays accommodation vouchers were won through an interactive Kahoot quiz organised by KEDA at Laman Desa Kirana throughout MAHA 2026.

The activity was one of KEDA’s attractions aimed at encouraging visitors to visit Laman Desa Kirana, while also providing an opportunity for them to learn more about KEDA’s products, activities and various initiatives.

As the top prize, the first-place winner received a complimentary accommodation voucher at Bendang Man Resort, Sik, Kedah, while the second-place winner received an accommodation voucher at Serdang Lake View, Bandar Baharu, Kedah.

In addition, a total of 100 souvenir gifts were prepared for quiz participants as a token of appreciation for their participation and support for the activities organised by KEDA.

The organisation of this interactive activity reflects KEDA’s approach in providing a relaxed, engaging and visitor-friendly experience to enliven Laman Desa Kirana throughout MAHA 2026.

KOLEJ KEDA ENLIVENS BALING ESCAPADE FESTIVAL 2026 WITH KEDAH HERITAGE COOKING DEMONSTRATION

BALING – Kolej KEDA added vibrancy to the Baling Escapade Festival 2026 through the Kedah Heritage Cooking Demonstration, showcasing the uniqueness and rich culinary heritage of traditional Kedah cuisine.

The two-day demonstration, held on 31 July and 1 August 2026, took place from 10.30 a.m. to 12.00 noon. Throughout the programme, Kolej KEDA showcased the preparation of various traditional Kedah dishes, offering visitors an opportunity to experience the state’s rich culinary heritage.

On the final day of the demonstration, visitors had the opportunity to witness the preparation of serabai with durian gravy, one of the traditional delicacies associated with Kedah’s culinary heritage.

At the same time, visitors also had the opportunity to visit the KEDA entrepreneurs’ booths, which featured a wide range of local products, including food and beverages, health and wellness products, handicrafts, as well as creative products developed by local entrepreneurs.

Among the participating KEDA entrepreneurs were Sumber Segar Enterprise, offering dairy products; Setehsen Global Sdn. Bhd., featuring tea products; Addil World Enterprise, offering health beverages; Deqaira Global, which offers wellness products such as balms and clove oil; and NFF Fabulous Food (Lekoshow SP), offering keropok lekor and prawn noodles.

Also participating were Ommaza Burger, offering homemade burgers; Nomad Kopifi House, serving coffee and burgers; Gadis Tebu Enterprise (Ayra Frozen), featuring a variety of frozen traditional pastries; Cedoqq Enterprise, offering desserts and dadih; and Sulung Dream Empire, which specialises in dumplings and pan mee.

The participation of KEDA entrepreneurs in the festival not only provided a platform for product promotion and marketing but also created opportunities for local entrepreneurs to engage directly with visitors from Kedah and beyond.

The participation also served as a platform to introduce local entrepreneurs’ products to a wider audience, while supporting KEDA’s efforts to empower and enhance the economic potential of rural communities.

CHAMPION DISHES SERVED AT BALING ESCAPADE FESTIVAL 2026

BALING – The Kedah Regional Development Authority (KEDA) continued to strengthen its role in driving rural socio-economic development by participating in the Baling Escapade Festival 2026 and The Magnificent Baling 100, held in the heart of Baling town.

Through Kolej KEDA, KEDA organised a traditional Kedah heritage cooking demonstration featuring two distinctive local dishes, namely Kerabu Pais Ikan and Ubi Kayu Cicah Nyoq.

Adding to the significance of the demonstration, both traditional dishes had previously been recognised as champion dishes and awarded gold medals at the World Chefs Championship, highlighting the uniqueness and quality of Kedah’s culinary heritage and its potential to be showcased at a higher level.

The cooking demonstration was conducted by Cikgu Siti Fatimah binti Abdul Karim, Cikgu Najah Salam binti Ibrahim and Cikgu Farhana binti Md Yusof, who are instructors for the Food Technology Course at Kolej KEDA. The three instructors have an impressive track record, having previously emerged as champions and won gold medals at the World Chefs Championship.

Also present to witness the cooking demonstration were KEDA General Manager, YBhg. Puan Hajah Afifah binti Haji Omar; Manager of Entrepreneur Development, Encik Mohd Ariff bin Mohd Rodzi; Manager of Management Services, Cik Suhaila binti Hamzah; and KEDA Development Officer for Zone 5 Baling, Encik Mohamad Nasri bin Ahmad Shukri.

The demonstration successfully attracted the attention of visitors. Interestingly, a visitor from Manjung, Perak, had the opportunity to taste the dishes prepared during the session. The dishes received positive feedback, with the visitor describing them as delicious, unique and distinctive in flavour.

During the event, the KEDA General Manager also presented tokens of appreciation to lucky visitors who took the time to attend and witness the cooking demonstration.

She also took the opportunity to visit ten booths operated by KEDA-supported entrepreneurs participating in the Baling Escapade Festival 2026, providing encouragement and support to local entrepreneurs in their efforts to promote and market their products to visitors.

KEDA’s participation in the event not only showcased the uniqueness of Kedah’s culinary heritage but also provided a platform to highlight the expertise of Kolej KEDA’s instructors while creating promotional opportunities for KEDA-supported entrepreneurs, in line with KEDA’s aspiration to continue empowering and improving the well-being of rural communities.

KEDA STRENGTHENS THE PREPARATION OF THE KKDW 2026 OUTCOME EVALUATION STUDY REPORT

KLANG – The Kedah Regional Development Authority (KEDA) continues to strengthen its commitment to ensuring that the preparation of the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) 2026 Outcome Evaluation Study Report is carried out in a high-quality, comprehensive and impactful manner.

In this regard, the Kick-Off Workshop for the Preparation of the KKDW 2026 Outcome Evaluation Study Report was held over three days, from 29 to 31 July 2026, at Wyndham Acmar, Klang.

The workshop involved collaboration between Kolej KEDA and the Entrepreneur Development Division (BPU) of KEDA to streamline the preparation of the study report, while ensuring that information, programme achievements and impacts are systematically and comprehensively documented.

The implementation of the Outcome Evaluation Study (KPO) is in line with General Circular No. 1 of 2012: Guidelines for Measuring the Achievement of Development Programmes/Projects through Outcome Evaluation, which aims to measure the achievement and effectiveness of development programmes or projects that have been implemented.

The workshop, organised by the Coordination and Monitoring Division (PP) as the main secretariat of the KKDW Outcome Evaluation Study Committee (JKPO), also provided participants with exposure to the procedures for conducting KPO, while enhancing their understanding and knowledge in preparing high-quality outcome evaluation reports.

Through this workshop, the Kolej KEDA Team and BPU KEDA Team will continue their collaboration and commitment towards producing a high-quality, comprehensive and evidence-based 2026 Outcome Evaluation Report.

This effort is important to ensure that every development programme and project implemented by KEDA is assessed based on its achievements, outcomes and impact on the target groups.

A systematic evaluation process will also support KEDA’s efforts to strengthen the effectiveness of service delivery and ensure that every development initiative undertaken continues to create meaningful value and benefits for rural communities.

DURIAN FEST @ PROSPEK PEDU 4.0 ELEVATES PEDU DURIAN TO GREATER HEIGHTS

PEDU – The organisation of Durian Fest @ PROSPEK Pedu 4.0 serves as a strategic platform to promote the uniqueness and quality of Pedu Durian while strengthening its position as one of Kedah’s high-value agro products.

Organised by the Kedah Regional Development Authority (KEDA), the festival not only brings together durian enthusiasts from various regions but also provides an opportunity for the public to experience firsthand the distinctive qualities of durian cultivated by participants of the Integrated Village Economic Development Project (PROSPEK) Pedu.

Pedu Durian has been gaining recognition for its unique flavour, rich texture, and premium quality, achieved through the adoption of good agricultural practices by local growers.

Through this festival, visitors have the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of durian varieties while learning directly from growers about cultivation methods and orchard management practices.

KEDA Chairman, Dato’ Seri Diraja Mahdzir Khalid, said that Durian Fest is an effective platform for introducing the Pedu Durian brand to a wider market and enhancing consumer confidence in the quality of local produce.

According to him, continuous promotional efforts are essential in creating a distinctive identity for Pedu Durian, enabling it to stand alongside other well-known durian brands in Malaysia.

“Pedu has significant potential to emerge as a durian-based agro-tourism destination. Through festivals like this, we can attract more visitors, thereby increasing the income of growers and stimulating the local community’s economy,” he said.

The organisation of Durian Fest @ PROSPEK Pedu 4.0 reflects KEDA’s commitment to positioning Pedu Durian as a new agro-tourism icon in Kedah, while expanding market opportunities and enhancing the competitiveness of rural products at a higher level.

KEDA VILLAGE COOPERATIVES ROUNDTABLE SESSION FOR ZONE 3 STRENGTHENS NETWORKING AND COOPERATIVE SUSTAINABILITY

PENDANG – Efforts to strengthen the role of cooperatives as a catalyst for rural community economic development were further enhanced when the Community Development Division (BPK) of the Kedah Regional Development Authority (KEDA) organised the 2026 KEDA Village Cooperatives Roundtable Outreach Session for Zone 3 (Pendang/Pokok Sena) at Dewan Lestari Asam Jawa, Pendang, recently.

The programme, which brought together representatives of KEDA Village Cooperatives from the districts of Pendang and Pokok Sena, served as a platform to discuss issues, challenges, and the future direction of cooperatives to ensure they remain relevant and competitive in generating economic growth within local communities.

The session began with a briefing by the Pendang District Information Department, delivered by Puan Syamimi Aaizag Ibrahim, who shared information on the agency’s role in disseminating government policies and information to the public.

Participants were then updated on KEDA’s latest developments and initiatives through a presentation by Encik Muhammad Nasir Abdullah.

The programme also featured a session by the Malaysia Cooperative Societies Commission (SKM), presented by Encik Muhammad Syahid, who provided insights into governance practices, regulatory compliance, and opportunities that cooperatives can leverage to enhance their performance and organisational resilience.

The highlight of the programme was the Cooperative Roundtable Session, which provided participants with an opportunity to voice their views, share experiences, and propose improvements to the management and operations of KEDA Village Cooperatives.

Through the organisation of programmes such as this, KEDA hopes to further strengthen strategic collaboration between relevant agencies and KEDA Village Cooperatives, ensuring that cooperatives continue to serve as sustainable and inclusive drivers of rural socio-economic development.

MARA EDUCATION FOUNDATION PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO KEDA, STRENGTHENING HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT COLLABORATION

ALOR SETAR – The Kedah Regional Development Authority (KEDA) recently received a courtesy visit from the MARA Education Foundation (YPM) at the KEDA Headquarters Complex.

The YPM delegation was led by its Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mohd Amran Mohd Ariffin. Also present were two YPM Board Members, Dato’ Hajah Norma Haji Awang and Mr. Syed Mohd Johan Rizal Syed Unan Mashri, as well as Mr. Hayazi Azizan, YPM Education Liaison Officer for Kedah.

The delegation was warmly welcomed by KEDA’s top management, led by the General Manager of KEDA, Puan Hajah Afifah Haji Omar. Also in attendance were the Deputy General Manager (Operations), Mr. Khairul Azmeer Abu Bakar, and the Community Development Manager, who is currently carrying out the duties of Deputy General Manager (Management), Mr. Mohd Azam Omar.

The courtesy visit served as a platform for both parties to exchange views and explore strategic collaboration opportunities, particularly in the areas of human capital development, education, and rural community empowerment.

Discussions also covered various initiatives that could be jointly implemented to enhance access to education and strengthen the socio-economic development of rural communities, in line with the aspirations of both agencies to nurture knowledgeable, skilled, and competitive future generations.

KEDA remains committed to fostering partnerships with government agencies and related institutions to ensure that rural development initiatives are implemented in a more comprehensive and impactful manner for the well-being of the people.

NATIONAL YOUTH DAY 2026 PADANG TERAP CELEBRATED IN A LIVELY ATMOSPHERE

PADANG TERAP – The National Youth Day (HBN) 2026 Celebration at the Padang Terap District level was held in a lively atmosphere with various exciting activities themed “Empowering Youth” at the National Youth Skills Institute (IKBN) Naka here.

The programme, organised by the Padang Terap District Youth Office, successfully gathered youths and the local community through various beneficial and recreational activities such as the Fun Run Challenge, Mass Aerobics, busking performances, e-sports, carrom competition, traditional archery, silat performances, agency exhibitions, health screenings, children’s colouring competition, and the MADANI Rahmah Sales programme.

The opening ceremony was officiated by YBhg Dato’ Seri DiRaja Mahdzir bin Khalid, Chairman of KEDA, who also delivered a message encouraging youths to continue striving towards a brighter future through skills education and technical training.

In his speech, he expressed hope that more non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and government agencies would collaborate in organising youth development programmes so that young people, especially in Padang Terap, could better understand future opportunities and career pathways.

He also urged youths to take advantage of opportunities in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), which can provide broad career prospects based on individual interests and talents.

“We want to help children in Padang Terap, including those who may not excel academically, to still have a bright future through skills-based fields,” he said.

Also present were IKBN Naka Director, Tuan Ismawi bin Ismail; KEDA Deputy General Manager (Operations), Encik Khairul Azmeer bin Abu Bakar; and Padang Terap Youth Council Chairman, Encik Jasnizam Husni.

Meanwhile, KEDA also participated in making the programme a success through a mobile exhibition that provided information regarding skills education and TVET opportunities for youths.

Among the attractions that drew visitors’ attention was the exhibition on TVET programmes at Kolej KEDA, which offers various skills courses as a platform to build a better future for rural youths.

The programme indirectly demonstrated that every youth has the potential to succeed when given opportunities and proper guidance in their fields of interest.

The event concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation to youths who achieved excellence in various fields.
